Every month brings new social media developments. Instagram is no exception and keeps launching new options. We can now use Instagram Reels, new fonts in Instagram Story and the option to create QR codes. Instagram also keeps innovating and is busy testing Instagram Direct and Messenger. Stay informed and make the most of this month's newest Instagram update.
Over the past six months, TikTok has grown considerably. The number of users in the Netherlands has risen by at least 1 million, to a total of more than 3.5 million users. Plenty of creative and playful videos are shared on the platform, and with more than 12.3 billion monthly impressions in the Netherlands, these videos are watched a lot too.
Reason enough for Instagram to take a good look at TikTok's features and apply various options within its own platform. Instagram is currently rolling out Instagram Reels. A new feature for sharing and discovering short, creative videos on Instagram.
This option is now available in more than 50 countries, including the Netherlands:

The paper plane icon can currently still be found in the top right of the Instagram app, but this will change before long. Instagram is currently testing Messenger within Instagram. Several Instagram users have already received a pop-up message enabling the update.

This makes it possible to start a chat with contacts from Messenger. Besides one-on-one conversations, Messenger Rooms also makes it possible to open a chat with a group of up to 50 people.
Various new fonts for Instagram Story were already being tested earlier this year. A feature everyone had been waiting for. The new fonts have recently become available to everyone. Besides creativity, this option also contributes to the platform's accessibility. In particular, the font that resembles Comic Sans is easier to read for people with dyslexia.
Although the QR code has been around for a long time, Instagram has recently rolled out a new update that includes it. The QR code makes it easy to connect with friends or businesses. Scanning the QR code redirects straight to the Instagram profile. This gives businesses an excellent opportunity to show opening hours, product promotions and creative content.
An extra tool to let online and offline reinforce each other even further. For example, support a menu by inspiring people with photos of dishes on Instagram. Build loyalty with new customers by having them follow your Instagram account. Show which profile an ambassador should tag in an Instagram post featuring one of your products. Or explain Instagram shopping !
Creating an Instagram code is easy and quick to find. Open the Instagram app and go to the profile for which you want to create an Instagram QR code. Within the Instagram profile, click the menu in the top right and the QR code option will appear. You can even customise the QR code to match your own style.
